"The Settle District and North West Yorkshire Dales " was published in 1923 and is a guide book for the area, containing descriptions of walks and some drives in the district along with some history. There are descriptions of caves and potholes too, along with a bit of historical description of the exploration of these. This book contains over 200 pages along with some 35 plates (some drawings but mainly photographs).

"Chronicles and Stories of the Craven Dales" was published in 1881. I found it to be a very readable book despite being 120 years old. Whilst there are not a lot of names in here, there is a lot about those who are to be found in here in general. A good idea of the information in the book is to be found in the introduction (see immediately below) written by Dr. Collyer of "Ilkley, Ancient and modern" fame.
