This book of over 200 pages of text along with many engravings and woodcuts showing buildings, people and maps deals with the history of Hull starting in the 11th century and finishing in the early part of the 19th century (the book was published in 1835). The book includes chapters on commerce, Churches, Dissenting chapels, Trinity house, Charitable institutions, Free Schools, Medical, Literary and Musical institutions, Public buildings and Biographical notices. The biographical section includes the Del la Poles, Luke Fox, Andrew Marvel, Sir John Lawson, Commodore Edward Thompson, John Mason, Benjamin Thompson, Daniel Sykes MP, and William Wilberforce Esq. There are numerous others people mentioned in the main texts.

In order to give you some idea as to the contents of the book, the index of the book has been transcribed on a separate page, and the list of plates and other illustrations is given below..

Whilst the quality of the engravings is excellent (see the engraving of Holy Trinity Church), the text quality, while being quite readable, does leave something to be desired:

The preface, the title page and 1st two pages from the CDrom can be read with an Acrobat reader on-line.
