A short review of the book:

Anyone reading the title of this volume might be forgiven for passing it over... after all, the main part of the title does state "Smith of Doncaster". However, should you choose to disregard or you perhaps overlook the remaining part of the title, which states "& connected families" then it is quite possible that you may be missing important links in your research. That is, if you are utilising such volumes for the pursuance of your family or local history or for social or demographic research.

The title page continues the cover title with the words "Embracing Elaborate Pedigrees of the Connected Families... " while the 'Index to Personal Names', which appears at the back of the volume lists no fewer than 850 surnames that are referenced within the work.

For anyone with an interest in any aspect of the history of Doncaster and particularly of its connected families, then this volume is a veritable mine of information and an important work of reference which should be high on your list for consultation. Unfortunately the opportunity for consulting with an original copy is very low as only one hundred copies were ever printed, the original work being published by subscription only. However, those with an interest of the Doncaster area and its families will certainly feel privileged that this work has now been made available on CDrom.
