"Archaeologia Adelensis, or a History of the parish of Adel in the West Riding of Yorkshire" was written by Henry Trail Simpson (Rector of Adel) with numerous etchings by W. Lloyd Ferguson and published in 1879. This book contains over 300 pages and starts with the Name and Topography of Adel, then deals with the outlying districts, relics, historical memorials, Antiquarian remains, Ancient religions and their bearing on Adel, and the symbolical sculptures on and in the church. There are very few personal names in this book, and nor does it contain an index (which means that being able to search the book with a computer is very useful.).
